What Year 4 fractions covers

In Year 4, children keep adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and extend to tenths and hundredths — for example 3/10 + 6/10 or 45/100 − 12/100. Where Year 3 stops at one whole, Year 4 goes beyond one whole, so a total can come out as 13/10. Answers are left with the same denominator the child worked in, not simplified and not rewritten as a mixed number — both of those come in Year 5. Every sheet is A4, print-ready, and comes with an answer key.

What fractions does Year 4 cover?

Year 4 children add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, building on Year 3 with tenths and hundredths — for example 3/10 + 6/10 or 45/100 − 12/100. Unlike Year 3, the total can now go past one whole, so an answer may be a fraction like 13/10.

Are the fractions simplified?

No. In Year 4 the answer is written with the same denominator the child worked in, exactly as they are taught — 6/10, not 3/5. Simplifying fractions is introduced later, in Year 5 and Year 6.
